Sound the alarm!

By Dave Henning / October 16, 2014

“And the Lord God of their fathers sent warnings to them by his messengers, rising up early and sending them because He had compassion on His people.”- 2 Chronicles 36:15 (NKJV)

In Chapter 2 (“Coming to Your Senses”) of AHA, Kyle Idleman begins by discussing alarm ring tones on cell phones.  Kyle states he’s discovered that “the effectiveness of the alarm is in direct correlation to how much you don’t want to hear it.”  Similarly, a sudden awakening in our lives takes place when God finally gets our attention.  We become acutely aware of our circumstances as well as the reality that something must change.

Pastor Idleman notes that we often miss God’s alarm sounding in our lives because we’re insensitive to it.  It’s only when the loudness of the alarm grows so unpleasant that we come to our senses.  We can’t ignore the alarm any longer.  Often God will sound the alarm early so that we will wake up before things fall apart.  We don’t have to hit rock bottom before we come to our senses.

The author states that the expression rising up early (2 Chronicles 36:15) doesn’t mean that God rose out of bed early.  The phrase is best understood as “taking action early”.  God is a loving Father who sounds the alarm as quickly as our problem surfaces.  He wants to save us from the heartbreak of a Distant Country.

Today’s question: What alarms has God sounded during your desert, land between time?  Please share.
